Judicial Candidate, PUNCH 176, Attorney Wende Williams hails from Cook County Chicago’s Southside. She attended Catholic College Prep, Academy of Our Lady of Longwood, before dropping out to be married. After giving birth to two children, a single parent now she decided to return to school.
Finishing Olive Harvey, Chicago City College’s Associates Degree in Accounting with High Honors, she enrolled in Roosevelt University on a full scholarship and finished an Honors Baccalaureate Degree in Accounting at Chicago’s Roosevelt University.
Wende returned to Olive Harvey as an Adult Education Teacher in the G.E.D. program while working for small CPA Firm. Later, on while working for a fortune five hundred corporation’s accounting department, Wende was exposed to corporate law. Enrollment at the University of Denver netted Wende her law degree, but the same day she received her law license to practice as an attorney, her brother was arrested,
May 1990 , fate steers Wende into criminal law, not business law as she had imagined. New law degree and first law license, in three days later, Wende had her brother released with all charges dropped!
Judicial candidate Wende Williams went on to work the next twenty-nine (29) plus years as a Criminal Defense and Civil Law Attorney representing clients in serious personal injuries and family law in Colorado and now in Illinois. Recalling her brother’s arrest, Wende commented, “my brother was arrested for multiple offenses that would have gotten him 16-48 years of incarceration!
If my innocent brother were arrested, how many others arrested could be innocent too?” Adding, “The same effort used to get my brother out of jail became the same zealous effort I have used to ensure that my clients get their fair trials.”
Wende’s response to why she should be a Cook County Circuit Judge was, “I have dedicated my life’s work as a practicing attorney to fair play and justice. Continuing she said, “as a judge, I will make sure that all parties in court will be heard. I will listen. I will pay close attention to the evidence. I will endeavor to make the correct application of the law to the facts of the case; more so, I will use carefulness in rendering a decision for equal justice and protection under the law.”
Attorney Williams mentors college graduates for their law school entrance exams. After law school she prepares them for the state licensing examinations. She works with community programs like expungements seeking to bring about positive economic and social change. One example of her community service was her participation in the “I Can’t Breathe” Panel Discussion for Chicago Public Schools.
Speaking directly to the Cook County Voters, she said, “Your vote matters, use it. You have an opportunity to elect a fair-minded judge like me. Voting in Cook County is now until Election Day June 28, 2022. I am the BEST PICK, Punch 176!
